Public 990 filings and job postings, scanned and scored for executive transitions. Each lead names the board chair, so you reach the person deciding, not the person leaving.
Transition Detector is self-hosted software that detects nonprofit leadership transitions from public data. It indexes IRS Form 990 filings for 1.3 million organizations, watches job postings, and fires signals for executive-director departures, interim titles, long-tenured founders, unattached ED postings and compensation anomalies. Signals are scored, deduplicated and tiered, and each lead identifies the board chair. Sold by A2 Digital as a one-time install; you pull the public data yourself under our scripts.
Candid-class vendors sell profiles. Nobody sells the event. A departure between two filings, an interim title, a posting with no search firm attached: these are public, and nobody is watching them for you.
The departing ED won't hire you. The board chair will. Officer extraction names the chair so your first touch lands with the decision-maker.
Composite scoring with tunable weights, tiered HIGH / MEDIUM / LOW, and a reason on every row. Your team reviews a short list, not a firehose.
Our scripts pull IRS bulk 990 data and the Business Master File into a local index. One-time backfill, then incremental updates.
Officer and compensation extraction across filings; detectors for departures, interim titles, tenure and anomalies; weekly job-posting scan through your own API key.
Signals are deduplicated and combined into a composite score with weights you can tune per tenant. Faith-based or other exclusions per config.
Tiered CSV cuts with reason codes and board chair names. Your CRM, your outreach, your approval process.
Prices in USD. Requires a Linux server with ~150 GB disk for the IRS bulk archive, Python 3.11+, SQLite, and a job-postings API key of your own for the weekly scan. A technical person on your side runs the install; the guide is written for them.
Public IRS Form 990 e-file data and the IRS Business Master File, plus job postings through a postings API you subscribe to. All public, all pulled to your own server.
990 data lags filing by one to two years, which is why the job-posting scan matters: it catches transitions as they happen. The two together give you both the long view and the live signal.
On the reference install about a quarter of HIGH-tier signals are confirmed as real transitions after a human looks. That is a good hit rate for intent data, and it is why the export is a candidate list, not a mailing list.
No. It runs on your server and writes exports on your schedule. We don't operate it and we don't see your leads.
No, and it shouldn't. It produces a scored list with the board chair named. Who you contact, how, and with what approval is your process.
Yes: by NTEE code, name pattern, state, revenue band and more, per tenant. The reference config excludes faith-based organizations for one tenant and not another.
Send us two states and a revenue band. We'll run one scored cut from the reference install.
